Cashus C.R.E.A.M. has dropped his debut mixtape with hosting duties covered by DJ Green Lantern. Featuring the usual blend of freestyles and regular tracks, this Hartford, Connecticut raised MC has pulled in work from some on the rise producers in the shape of Ron Browz, Shea Taylor (Beyonce, Ne-Yo) and P King (John Legend). Despite this, the focus will be on Cashus C.R.E.A.M. as he prepares the ground for an official album release. Despite his background, Cashus ‘ music has a strong New York feel with an almost Dipset type style as shown on tracks like the street ready ‘Oops… Ya Head.’ This is less of a surprise when you realize that he has moved to Queens, New York and that his influences include Run DMC, Nas and early LL Cool J. Flipping rhymes between the streets and the sheets, Cashus C.R.E.A.M. cleverly plays the levels to broaden his appeal and, while he offers little that you won’t have heard before, he brings a solid stance that fails to falter. It is when he is given something extra to add a touch more spice to his flow that Cashus C.R.E.A.M. finds the shine that will leave more than a passing impression, such as on the strong, ‘I Appreciate.’ ‘Game Time’ does it’s job well by serving as an out the gate promotional tool to get Cashus C.R.E.A.M.’s name out there. In fact it seems that he is ready to use whatever tools he can to push his profile as he has also released a promotional calendar that is currently in circulation around the Big Apple and is aimed squarely at the female market with the inclusion of a special ‘Pink Edition Mixtape.’ It seems that phase one has been completed successfully so it will be interesting to see if Cashus C.R.E.A.M. can take it to that next level.
